I love whimsy- especially in home decor.

We’re playful people. Our home is rainbow-colored on the inside and full of strange vintage finds. Of course, I recently stewed over the idea of repainting everything white + creating a fresh canvas. But those who know me well were right- the idea went right out the window.

After running along Erin’s post about this special paint, I had to have some. I called the nearby Home Depot to confirm it’s existence in-stock and nabbed it last night after a quick carbo-loading session at Uncle Bill’s with Husband Pants.

He thought I was crazy as usual.

The paint is MAGNETIC. Yes, it’s awesome. I thought it was a perfect fit for my office/studio space to create a special inspiration wall. The only available magnetic paint was the Rust-Oleum Magnetic Latex Primer ($20.49 per quart). It’s pricey + a quart only covers about 16 square feet, considering two coats is recommended (I went with three).

I originally wanted to paint the entire wall, but at that price I needed to retreat + rethink my design. After browsing my collection of vintage fabric for inspiration, I went with the classic polka-dots + used a plate and small bowl from the kitchen as “stencils.” The paint dries quickly (approx. 30 minutes), so this project can be (and was) completed in one night. It dries as a dark grey color, but you can paint over it with another color after 2-3 coats of the magnetic paint.

…and now my wall is magnetic + magic!
