Let’s Play With Color, Shall We?

I’ve had a long love affair with theRainbow Brite-colored walls in our apartment. Prior to signing our lease, I made sure we could paint the stark-white surroundings and make this space our home. Given the go-ahead, I chose apple green (living room), sunshine yellow (dining room), turquoise (kitchen + hallway) and a chocolate brown (bedroom). The only walls without color are here in my studio.
After five years and many re-designs, I woke up this morning with the sudden urge to cover my rainbow walls with the white paint I had hated so dearly, years ago. Yes- our space is full of personality. But after working from home for a month, I wondered: Is this really us?
Maybe I’m just going stir-crazy, but as we cross the five year mark in this apartment I can’t help but drool at the challenge of seriously creating a new space. The paint on the walls sets the tone for everything else.
My question is, when is it time to re-design & how often have you completely changed the look of your home?

We just moved into our new house in December ‘09. I ripped out wallpaper and repainted every room – bedroom, bathrooms, kitchen, dining room. The only room I left alone was the great room, because it was fine. However, I’m eyeballing it now thinking “hmmm…”
I just repainted our bedroom last weekend and Maddy wants to repaint her room.
If you desire change, paint is the fastest path to instant gratification. If my husband-pants would let me, I’d repaint every year or two.

I love to paint! It’s fun to experiment with a bold and daring color…. even if sometimes you have to turn around and paint right over it. It’s an exciting event for me and I’m looking forward to slapping up some color when I get my new place in a few weeks.
At this point, I really have no idea what direction I’ll move toward with color choices. I have an idea for my bedroom, but that’s it. Once I get my furniture in there it’ll be easier for me to determine…. but maybe you’ll need to come visit me in Springfield and help me do some color shopping. (:

Ha, I was just thinking about you and your very colorful walls yesterday. I was saying to myself “Ramona, the apartment needs more color and it has way to much stuff in it!” Since I couldn’t repaint the whole thing in one day (nor would the landlady let me paint it anything besides ‘Eggshell’) I simply moved the stuff on the walls around to new locations and moved the furniture.
So, to answer your questions…
1) I have no idea when it is time to redesign… maybe when you get sick of looking at it and are tired of dusting?
2) I have never totally redone my living space (always rented where painting wasn’t really an option) although I must rearrange every piece of furniture every two years or so.
